Emerald was established in 2001 as an innovative site services company serving the construction industry and communities. Its focus has been to provide clients with the tools that can help reduce rapidly escalating development and community environmental risks and costs. Following is background on some of our key employees.
From initial site clearing and erosion control to final phase grading and landscaping, Donahue has over 20 years of experience. Public and private sector projects have included general contracting for parks, golf course renovations, streambank stabilization, shoreline restoration, wetland mitigation, native seeding and prescribed burn maintenance as well as commercial landscaping with an emphasis on structural elements. He has managed jobs from $10K to $3 million in scope. Clients include municipalities, forest preserve and park districts as well as commercial and residential developers.
As Emerald's senior landscape architect, Gotham is licensed in the state of Illinois and has over 25 years of design experience. His projects have included public parks, streetscapes, and durable and decorative commercial fronts. Gotham's emphasis is on sustainable design along with native and natural solutions to site issues. He blends stormwater management with site landscaping to create visually pleasing and functional landscapes.
With over 20 years in the landscape and construction business, Pickens was co-owner of Cherry Landscaping, Construction and Maintenance as well as Rare Earth Landscaping Contractors, with over $2 million in sales and staff/crews of over 30 people. He is licensed in handling and hauling hazardous materials as well as management of environmental projects. Pickens also has extensive experience in the construction of natural water features and large structural projects such as retaining walls.
From Fortune 100 corporations to leading edge site management companies, Pickens has spent over 22 years managing environmental services for site development. In Austin, TX, he led development of a 159 acre commercial site that set a new standard for site work in the community as well as managing permitting involving an endangered species that was recognized by the Nature Conservancy. He has managed environmental projects around the world and brings a unique perspective on new environmental approaches using experience with quality improvement techniques in the electronics and healthcare fields.
Flores has been in charge of the landscape maintenance for Emerald since 2003, coming off of the 2002 $400 million Millenium Park, project in Chicago where she was in charge of $1.5 million maintenance and Christmas lighting programs. Her other major projects include the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts, Ping Tom Park in Chinatown and most recently the Muvico Theatre complex in Rosemont and Mill Creek Clock Tower development in Mokena, IL. She is also a Certified Commercial Turf Applicator.
